The Bubble Dress: 2008 vs 2023
This story is for my fellow millennials…
Let me set the stage: It’s the summer of 2008 in New York City, and my girlfriends and I are going dancing in Soho at our favorite club, wearing our very finest bold and brightest “satin” dresses. As you can see in the original (and yes blurry) image above, I am on the far left wearing a vibrant bright green version of the very popular style of dress at the time, called the “bubble dress,” and remember feeling oh-so-cool in my newest Forever 21 find. I was tan, the color really popped and I was ready to take on the night.
The funny thing is, I think I only wore this dress once and then for some reason, never reached for it again. Maybe because it was way too much of a statement for me at the time, or maybe it was too much of a trend, but regardless, said trend…the BUBBLE DRESS, is back and is costing upwards to $230 on Anthropologie! To respect the privacy of my friends in the original photo I left them out, but I did find a few more versions of this style of dress floating around the internet to prove that yes in fact, the early to mid-aughts fashion is upon us once again. What do we think about this?!
P.S. I have also heard that whale tails., wide boho disc belts are on the rise as well…
