A FEW TIPS!

  • Group like with like: pull together your belts, sweaters, long-sleeve shirts, work pants, dresses, button-down shirts, jeans, shorts, etc., and decide the best place to store each item as a group (hang pants in the closet, fold and stack sweaters in a chest of drawers or on a shelf). Working in groups of items can help you figure out how much space you need and the best way to store each type of item.

  • Get the most out of that prime real estate: Reserve the front and middle of your closet for clothes you wear most often. If you have to get dressed for work at 6 a.m. every day, you'll definitely want to make sure your work clothes are at the front of your closet for easy access.

  • Store lesser-worn items like formal wear or out-of-season pieces either in a separate closet (if you have the space), or towards the back of the wardrobe. For folded items, on the upper shelves, or under the bed. You want to adjust the visual aesthetic of what you are looking at every day to be one that is functional, so if the first thing you see when you open your closet is the fancy dress you wore to a wedding three years ago, that might throw you off a bit when trying to get dressed for the day!

If you still aren't sure how you want to organize your closet, keep in mind that there is no wrong way to do this. Instead, I urge you to take a look at the journal prompts to get some clarity and insight on what resonates with you and your lifestyle and take it from there! If you try one method and it doesn't serve you, try combining two or mixing and matching the systems to find what does work for you. Good luck - you've got this!
